Winter Brook Trout

I’ve been out of the fishing scene for a while now.  Hunting season has a way of taking all of your free time.  So this past weekend, I decided to head up to a local brook trout stream to see how thing are after a summer of sever flooding.  Talk about a different river!!  I fished all the normal areas, but the holes and pockets that usually hold fish have been rearranged.  It’s sorta like fishing a new stream that you’ve known all along.  Kinda weird really!

Fishing was pretty good for mid-January.  I have historically not done well here this early in the year, but the warm weather we have had recently must have made a few fish get hungry!  As usual this time of year, most fish were caught on a large nymph.  I guess they are tying to get as much food as possible.  So big meals it is!

Here are a few scenes from the trip.

I hope this is not a sign of things to come for this year!!  I’ve had a really long run of REALLY good luck in the equipment department!  It’s been quite some time since I have broken a rod..

That streak was ended this trip.
